Top tips to crack any technical interview

- Irrespective of your technical role, be very strong in the basics of the programming language
- Be ready to say NO I don’t know. Interviewers are not gauging you with the correct answers that you provided. They are gauging you based on how open you are to learn new areas.
- Be concise on the answers. Do not add extra word arts to explain the basic answer
- Do not beat the bush by saying irrelevant answers or asking question that does not make sense. When you do this, any interviewer will immediately put negatives in their score card.
- Take your time to answer. Many times, our initial response would not be appropriate or may be wrong.
- Smile First impressions are so important. When you greet people, make sure it’s with a firm handshake and always make eye contact when you are talking to people.
- Research, research and research some more. Learn about the company, its culture, Awards, its products etc. The more you know about the company, the more able you will be to answer questions intelligently about it
- Job description Read the job description again. You may have applied to a lot of companies and in the process you may have forgotten the job description of this position. It is important for you to know the job description as this will let you know the job requirements, skills and qualities that are expected from you.
- Get there early This always makes a good impression and shows your appreciation of the employer’s time. It also means you will not be flustered and stressed if you arrive late, so go 30min early.
- Explain your experience tell the interviewer just how your past experience will help in this job. Give specific examples of things you have achieved for your company and how you can relate this to the new role.
- Rapport with an interviewer speak clearly, sit up straight in your chair and show that you are interested and comfortable. And keep smiling!
- Ask for the job if you want it at the end of the interview, don’t be afraid to ask the interviewers what they thought of you as a candidate. If the response is positive, then you can ask what the next step is. If the response is more negative, use it as an opportunity to put right any of their concerns.
- Ask questions interviewers especially like it when candidates ask specific questions about the nature of the role, what the job entails, what the goals of the company are etc.
- Be friendly always be courteous and polite to anyone you meet at the interview site. The interviewer may seek the opinion of others when making their final decision.
- Say thank you thank the interviewers in person for taking the time to talk to you about the position. But also say thank you in writing an email will do thanking them again and reiterating why you would be an asset to the company.
